Thanks Judge Ballou

Terrific clarification! Thanks. The subject is finished.

What I was explaining was that an expensive fish brought to a show being judged by AKCA judges may not win if it is less finished than another fish of lesser quality and price. We as AKCA judges recognize quality even though it is unfinished and higher prized vs the finished fish. On Sunday's walk around, I showed an example of a size one showa that finished second to a much more finished size one showa, and I explained I would purchase the 2nd place fish over the first place fish because its white, red, and black were far superior but very unfinished especially the sumi. What I said and what I meant to explain may not have explained well, is that ZNA judges and breeders, not only recognize quality on an unfinished fish, and may choose to select this lesser finished fish, but higher quality fish over the more finished but lesser quality. There're many times AKCA judges see fish we love to buy that don't win at a show because of their not being finished.
Hopefully this is a more detailed explination of what I meant to say Friday night, and may have been misunderstood.
I don't intend to get involved in this ongoing debate, so there will be no further responses from me.

As for being tremendous assets to the hobby there is no question, but I've got a problem with bowing down. It must be a redneck American streak in me
Hell, I thought the REAL JR was shot in "DALLAS" LOL

wild guy chipping in...

I am considered wild in many situation, and very wild in some situation, but I Like to point everyone to 'why are we in this hobby ?' I believe most of us are here to enjoy the beauty only masters with dedicated hearts can bring forth. There is a lot to be gained, mentally and sprititually, in this hobby.

There is not one reason for anyone who are in this hobby for its true meaning to snare at other like a dog guarding its bowl of food.

take it easy, man.

Steve
True, Steve verifiably true now that I have my KOI USA in front of me. My apologies for the statement. It wasn't a quote was it?

On another subject I don't recall getting a response from you when I emailed you on Nov. 9 about one of the topics I've been addressing here today. Maybe I'll do better here:

",how about prodding to have AKCA and the various clubs actually get involved in taking positions on local, state, and federal legislation that impacts the hobby? The recent SVC import restrictions were known about in the industry, but where was AKCA? As for the VHS Federal Order restricting interstate commerce of various other farm fish and importation from regions of Canada could expand and have a devastating impact on the domestic koi producers. I was formerly a member of the Sierra Club. They obviously take positions and educate members. For another show I do about billfishing there is a similar organizational arm called the Billfish Foundation that studies and takes positions on pending legislation and educates their membership. Maybe it is time for a similar outreach by AKCA?

I'd be glad to write an editorial stating such.

That was the old school JR. He was married more recently to a fine looking African American gal that co-owned the plastic surgery clinic that the stars performed surgeries in (a great place for a koi pond) I can't imagine the old JR married to an African American lady, but times are a changing fer sure

Quote V. Paraphrase

I used to work with a guy that liked to tell other peoples stories. The problem was that no matter whose story he was telling his "quotes" were always in his own rather flowery vocabulary. One day he was "quoteing" a devout pentecostal co-worker and turning the air BLUE. I asked him if he was using the co-workers own words or his own. His response was "well that's what he meant". I promptly asked him to never quote me.
One of the marks of a good journalist is to make a clear distinction between reporting facts and giving editorial commentary. If your mental "fact filter" has an editorial opinion bent to it, (as seems to be the case here) you diminish your own credibility. I'm glad Burt chimed in to straighten things out. I'm disappointed that he had to.
