Sanki

What do you think of this one. It's 12 inches long, don't know sex, male I would guess. Don't know the breeder either. But it is Japanese import.

I would like a better pic of the beni, but to me the sumi looks to be at it's prime or peak. For the size of the fish being 12inches it doesnt have a a bright future. But I would like to see a better pic of the beni. The age of the fish?

To me, I like to select Sanke tosai with very little sumi. Did this Sanke have little sumi when you bought it?

I actually didn't buy it. It was a freebee from Japan Koi Online. One of the fish I had bought they dropped and refunded my money. I didn't want to have to pay for shipping a half full box so Taro gave me two free fish. This one and another sanki.

Its very difficult to say too much from those pictures to be honest. What I would be able to say is that in terms of pattern, I think it is promising. The bases of a good SankE is a good kohaku pattern and this fish has that. Asuming the fish is into its second year and no older I would say it could go on to be very good with a bit of luck from the sumi god on your side. This time next year it will be a VERY different fish, which way it goes is something of a lottery though.

Steve,
if i didn't know you, I'd think you were Brit ( or greatly influenced that way) sanke ( or sonk-kay) as most americans pronounce the color variety,
is quite usually pronounced in the UK as Sank-kee (sanki) Lol....but no matter what you call it, free is a great price and don't call it late to dinner ( you need to fatten that boy up! and get it as big as you can to carry the heavy
black pattern! )
