Well add some calcium carbonate, or baking soda to your pond and you can hopefully balance out your water around 7.0+ pH.

Baking soda should only be used in an emergency to keep your pH from crashing. Try using a calcium carbonate to buffer your KH, it won't raise your pH.

Ops! Haha.

Add an acid into your pond. Since your pond is basic at the moment. you need to balance it out.
But would that be the best way to do it russ? you are the guru here.

oh wait, how did I come around to posting here again?

lil: It can be very dangerous to play around with adjusting pH. It is something that has to be thoroughly understood. IMO, only advanced waterkeepers should even consider it. Most hobbyists end up doing far more harm than good.

I agree too!! There are other ways to make adjustments but playing with your Ph is like playing Russian Roulette on a roller coaster. Just leave it alone!!

If your tap water is 8.0 and after you add B.S., your pH is 8.5, then you should consider adding something to you pond that will buffer your KH but won't raise your pH.

Talking Since Russell is NOT a self promoter...

I'll toot his horn for him. I purchased some Lithaqua from him early this year for KH stability and I am thoroughly impressed. It doesn't matter if I get heavy rains or do tapwater top offs/water changes. My KH maintains itself well and I haven't had to add B.S. even once.
