When it comes to my koi and the hobby of keeping or selling koi. My next boyfriend will have to have lots of money to sink in the pond and love koi as much as me or there will be no common grounds for even friendship. My first love is my son and grandkids after that my love and passion for koi tops the list. So I guess those black money holes with have more money in them. What else could you want out of life

If my momo pair prove themselves again this spring well then the black money hole will turn green Really all I want out of this is to keep the farm going. I just plane love koi and its just plain simple fun. I never thought that smelling like a fish could be so gratifying
So if your single and looking for a koi lover and have lots of money to spend send me a pm and we can go from there.

Nishikigoi is my continued adventure into living art--they spark my Muse and give me a peaceful reason for being. But it's even more than that...these creatures are my friends, they are family, they are my hope and many times they have been my salvation from the banality of the world. And it is a symbiotic relationship, one where they learn and benefit as much from me as I from them.

They are amazing.

People stop by and are held captive by their joyful nature, their willingness to dock in one's hand then flow through it like water is one of their favorite games to play with human friends. Most folk haven't seen the like of it and are spellbound--there isn't a visitor comes here now that doesn't at least get his/her fingers wet every time we go to sit by pondside and chat. In fact, the pond is the first place everyone goes when they come here. It used to be the giant horses greeting them at the gate. *LOL*

I have a hard time calling this a hobby...it is definately something more, something that I am at a loss of words to describe as I am about to be tryptophaned to death over slowly roasted turkey. Smell that rich aroma wafting from the kitchen?

It doesn't get much better than this,

Marie

The aroma has even gotten down the hall to the computer room!! It's 12:30 pm and I'm already salivating at the thoughts of Turkey and all the other goodies. Can't wait till later!!

By the way, Marie et al, HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Beauty and learning. We enjoy the labor of love that keeping them quickly became. Sculpting, re-sculpting, re-re-sculpting the pond Tinkering with the filters, my wife wading out into the pond to scoop up the leaves the skimmer misses. Seeing them fly to us when it's feeding time. Having friends and strangers look in and say "wow" even though our collection is modest to say the least. Watching the babies grow and change before our eyes as they morph from fry to fingerling to.......??? And looking forward to whatever comes next. And lest I forget, making new friends that I never would have met without Koi

A commitment to improve ones knowledge and skill in this hobby, and the satisfaction of seeing a job well down through the beauty portrayed by a well kept koi .

It's an addiction just like heroine , makes you feel great so you keep feeding it. Difference is H is bad for you and Koi is good for everything but the bank account

If we're lucky we learn from our new found koi friends how to care for our charges...and then the hobby seems to offer up so many more doors to journey thru....breeders,bloodlines, water parameters all kinds of neat new info to explore. For some who cannot get the help they need for whatever reason, the hobby eventually leads to the exit door. A little used door for most, but for an unfortunate few, one that must be used to get away from the frustration of loosing fishy friends, or trying to make inroads into cliquey clubs; only to give up in frustration. As we define what door we wish to enter next, let's all vow to take 5 minutes at the next show or club meeting or random meeting at a dealership, to offer a hand in friendship to a newbee. Afterall they are here for the same reason we are. each with their own gift that they bring. let's not send them away and loose what they could have contributed.
Fortunately for us we have KB, It might not be a bad idea to spead the word
that this is the place to feel welcome and feel free to learn. let's make the exit door a thing of the past, so all can find the joy of koi.....thank-you Russ for always being the first one on this board to extend a hand of welcome...
I agree with most of the comments so far. One thing I would add is the special exciitement when traveling to Japan or any koi event really and knowing that you are likelly to see something new and exciting. Dick's post is one that I wish I had written. Thanks Dick
