Hi Mitch,
Sorry, my post came across harsher than I intended. I didn't intend for it to seem I was criticizing another post. I edited my earlier post to say I would be more comfortable talking in theory than about a specific person/business transaction that I had heard about 2nd or 3rd hand.

So, my next question is why do they not come back to defend their title? Has this ever been done? Is it always...win, then retirement from the show ring?

I'm no expert by any means, but it would seem to me there would be a lot more to lose (financially) than to gain. It has been mentioned that unlike here in the U.S. where a fish may be shown in different size classes over a period of years while it is still improving, that in Japan they are usually raised to a peak finish, shown, and ulikely to hold true championship form beyond the peak year. Taking GC one year only to come in a lesser place the next... That would imply a decline in prestige and perceived value. Owning a Champion is better than owning a has-been.
Current pictures of many famous Oyagoi are never seen. Faded glory in the pond doesn't change the quality of the offspring, but it could be a detriment in marketing them.
Just a thought from a rookie.

After a fish wins GC, they cant compete the following year. There are 3 fish that have taken the title twice...

As an example if a fish won in the year 2000, it would not be eligible to compete in the year 2001, but could compete in the year 2002 and after?

Any links or pictures of fish that won twice and in what years? I'm guessing that it has been quite a while since a repeat has occurred.

Well let's say this years All Japan GC can compete in 2007, I mean if the fish is in still good condition to compete. The fish is young enough and barring breeding injuries it should be around for awhile.

Notible fish, "This is Kohaku" and "Sakura Hime"....you can google the names. I think the greatest achievement would be for a fish to take GC at the 3 biggest shows in Japan in the same year...
