Now, folks, KCOTA is just getting material to fill the airwaves. Audiences wouldn't much care to hear the history of the evolution of the Koshihara method into contemporary practices. Investigatory journalism has a proud history of muckraking. There is usually something to be found if the rake is wide and the raker determined. No matter how thin the muck may seem, there are always places where it gets thick if you rake long enough. The raker just has to remember not to wallow on the wrong side of the fan. So, give respect to this hallowed tradition; and, please, let's not constrain or inhibit this endeavor by throwing such emotionally-charged terms as "responsible" around. In the end it needs to all come out so the truth is known.

.... Wouldn't it be shocking to learn that a club didn't renew with AKCA because there wasn't a quorum to approve the motion to renew, and nobody had the guts to take responsibility to send in the check on their own without a bylaw amendment! The clique running the club should all be impeached for dereliction; or is it the unreliable folks who did not show up who should be kicked out of the club? Maybe it's all the fault of the volunteer who drafted the defective bylaw in the first place! There's no telling where all the muck leads unless the raking continues.

This has to do with annual membership renewal. AKCA member club dues are paid in June or July each year. The clubs dropped from the AKCA membership last month is an annual event. Not something that happens monthly.

Good point!! This is NOT a mass exodus happenining all of a sudden. As was mentioned before, there is always an ebb and flow to an organization the size of AKCA. New clubs are formed as often as clubs dissolve. It might be of a high level of importance to AKCA to know why these clubs have not renewed their dues. It might also be helpful if AKCA provided it's member clubs with guidance concerning pitfalls that can occur to help maintain some solvency. But, to post it on the airwaves, then do the investigation into the whys or hows or whos, is NOT in the realm of RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM - imho!!!!!!

I challenge you to find me another year in those numerous ones listed in the AKCA minutes where eight clubs were involved. It was stated several months ago that four clubs would be dropped from the roles Oct. 1 if they did not renew. Then in both the Oct. and Nov. minutes it noted eight were dropped. Obviously, the official line would be there is an ebb and flow due to membership renewals. In interviewing AKCA Director Bill Thompson last evening he said the same thing. This is to be expected and I generally agree. I also agree that the number of clubs might not be as important as the number of members in clubs. Is that increasing or stagnate? And as Bill noted he sees in AKCAs future a move toward assisting clubs better organize in part to build membership.

Maybe this will also harken a time with the bottom up management style of AKCA is reversed? Change for the sake of improvement is always good I'd say.

A czar speaking of responsible journalism? I don't really care if you like the questions I ask, but sometimes hard questions need to be asked unless you prefer to hide everything under the rug.

Hi Jan,
BRRRRRRRR I had to wear a coat to go out and visit the koi this morning. I had to stick my hand into the cold water to empty the skimmer basket. Sorry but I am not the snow scooping type. If you need some help in July or August let me know.

My pond temp dropped from 68 to 60F overnight and the koi were not happy with the sudden rapid drop in temps. Had not fed them for several days watching this first cold front approach. Most were sitting on the bottom and I think I heard them sputter a profanity or two. Air temps will be near freezing for lows and only in the 40's and 50's for highs in San Antonio the next 4-5 days. I expect the pond to drop into the low 50's before the next warm up next week.

I think I am going to break down and ask Santa for a pond heater to slow down the effect of these blue northers.
