Weekends are my respite (sorta) from pond duty. Gotta take some days off, you knoe. *nodnod* Summertime finds me and most visitors by pondside, feeling the fish. Yes, feeling. I've found that there really aren't that many people out there that have actually had the opportunity to pet a live fish that enjoys being touched like mine do (they mob hands in the water whether there's food in them or not *LOL*). Talk about friendship through koi--I get more visits now than I ever did. If it wasn't so funny it would almost be perplexing.

my outside pond, I just break the ice and fill my bonsai watering can then hustle in to the inside pond where my koi are and see how things are doing.
My grandmother koi is not happy at 55F this year so I've nudged the temp up 2 F and got her back swimming around as opposed to sitting on the bottom with both pecs out. She eats wheatgerm (sinking) and Barley ok. I know how she feels about winter and getting old. I noticed this weekend that my nisei
I raised from hosokai stock and a year younger than my Quality koi Asagi is now markedly longer in size already. Once inside the ouse again, I take off my jacket and get the pic out of my kohaku and wonder how she is doing in new jersey. Dan and sharon have my kindai showa from toshio and are getting that koi to lengthen like cracy inside and at 72 F. There is a sanke i saw at QualityKoi, His #2 nisei from matsunosuke and Momotaro bloodline cross, that I keep thinking about. Will have to contact them after the holidays. So for living in the Pacific NW, I spend as much time as I can with the koi but because of the cold it's not like in the spring and summer. Must be nice to live in Cali or Fl. and enjoy them all year long.....

Saturday morning is the time when I can feed the koi leisurely shortly after dawn. The morning is then spent cleaning filters, doing water changes and the like. As the pond re-fills, I putter around the yard. Sundays are for aquarium maintenance and whatever chores I have time to get to.

I'm seriously considering building a zen garden on the left side of my pond. I want a few large rocks and black sand carefully raked into a pleasing wave pattern. I want a place to sit and reflect and think peaceful thoughts. Now I usually just enjoy watching the koi swim.

Seeing as it's cold now about all I do is look out the window and think "Man its cold out there".
