Can someone show me a pic of the vent of a female that is ripe? What it would look like so I will know just when to place them in the spawning pen. And how long I have before the spawn in on.

I want to be prepaired for this spring. Im going to put my momo female in a holding tank early spring so I can net her and check. But first I need to know just when to add the male as I dont want to stay up to many nights waiting for them to spawn.

All viewer's under age please close your eyes as this could give you mental problems later in life

KFG, I've understood that you would move the female to a different pond or tank to manipulate the water conditions, mostly temperature, to target days on which you can be ready to work when they spawn.

I found some photos of female vents on our teenage son's laptop, but threw them away and didn't save any for you. Anyway, it would be unpleasant for you and the fish to keep checking her vent for signs. If you are keeping the sexes together, the male will start following the female about a week before the spawn. The following will turn into chasing as the day approaches. That's a pretty good sign and doesn't require handling the fish.
