KFG, Aquitori and I have mentioned that a few years back. People seemed interested and not. It woulda been for kicks.

I have put something similar on and more of a growout contest. Let's just say my name was not being used very nicely by more than a few people .

Brian, said he had something in mind in the past but he has been very busy with things. So maybe we try it again..

Peace...

One of the things that a Koi show offers that perhaps goes unnoticed is the fact that people are brought together from a greater greographic area. Whether its judges, water Q guys/gals, or simply other hobbyists, you get the interaction of a greater knowledge base than you typically can get from the local club itself. Not knocking the local club, afterall, they are the ones putting on the show. By getting invloved locally, and travelling to shows, and even entering them, you not only become part of the experience, you become part of the broader interchange of ideas and knowledge. A famntastic experience! Sue, You and Dick did it right and continue to!

Steve
...and you know what Steve, Dick and I still have the same excitement as we did that first show as we go to more and more shows. We've never lost the thrill of what we may see or what we may learn! Yes, the ribbons are nice, but what I can learn and take back to my local club is priceless!! Yes, a show does broaden your knowledge, no doubt.

Sue: What are planning on showing in Orlando? Your Reserve GC last March was the crowd pleaser. A lot of people had their appreciation of the possibilities rise to a higher level. One of the best aspects of koi shows is the expansion of understanding that can only come from seeing the very best in person. You'll never know what a contribution you made by simply showing that Kohaku.

Well, thank you Mike!! We sure enjoy her as well!! She's such a sweet baby girl!! I don't want to get too off topic so I'll answer briefly. She won't be going to Orlando this spring. We keep our fish indoors from October through May because of our harsh winters which puts our fish in unnatural lighting. So by the time spring rolls around, their color just isn't very good. Once they are outside for about a month, things change back to "normal". But she's grown 2" and added much in her gurth. Her whites are still georgous and her Hi plates are still very strong, but I'm confused about some small darker red spots that have appeared in the center of some of the scales on her shoulder (Hi Plate). I have consulted with Kevin and Steve C. about this. Might be genetics - just don't know. She's Ueno Bred. The 4 scale wide "window" that she had near her tale is closing. Her Hi is spreading nicely in that area. I'm trying to get some photos of her that shows the darker red spots, but they just aren't showing up on camera. I'll try a different light on her over the weekend when I do a water change in that tank. For us to be able to show in Orlando we have to purchase fish and leave them with our dealer which has in the past agreed to bring the fish down to Orlando for us. Then we can bring her/them home. We will likely do that again this year once we get a recommendation from Kevin. Either with or without fish, we will be attending the show in Orlando again this spring. Maybe I should start a thread on this red spotting issue and get some ideas about what may or may not be done to correct it.

Sue . . .

I'm no lighting expert, but years ago, when we was growing various kinds of hothouse orchids in our kitchen (which had no windows), we replaced the standard overhead flourescent bulbs with 'full-spectrum' or 'grow light' bulbs. Lighting problem solved.

Don't know what they'd be called these days, but maybe that's an answer you could pursue? Best,

Metal Halide

Or is it halite? They offer a broad lighting spectrum. Those incombination with another variety (can't remember the name but starts with an "A" I believe will do the trick.

Metal Halides.. I think Steve in Conjuction with actinics which is on the blue side of the spectrum.. If that is the "A" you were talking about...
