NW storms no fun The sun is shining brightly this morning. The lawn is littered with branches torn from my towering cedars and firs around the house. Winds were hurricane force ( 70 MPH +) yesterday afternoon, evening and into this morning. Didn't sleep between the roar of the generator and howl of wind interrupted by breaking branches that sounded like pistol shots. Power went out around 5:30 last night ( had pre-cooked supper in anticipation ) so it was a few minutes on the propane cook stove and supper was served. Lost a few sections of cedar fencing that are now flat. But the girls are fine, maybe 5 mins total no running water....makes you appreciate having a generator at your disposal. I had several cans of fuel that i had added a can of special ingredients to keep fuel fresh for long storage periods. So if you live in a place where heat and filtration is of concern and you could go for days without power ( total was about 16 hrs ) your next investment should go to Honda. I have lived here for about 25 years and never experienced a storm like last night. Sorry Julia, I didn't back to your greenwater thread, looks like the guys took very good care of ya!

Dick, where are you located? I am on Vancouver Island, and we got rocked three times in a row with this nastiness. Gale force winds, pelting rain, SNOW, ice rain, hail.and now sunshine. There are 250,000 folks without power right now. Mine went out briefly last night, and was gone for 5 hours yesterday morning. My brother has been without power since Monday. Woodstove and bbq..... I hope this is it! ![]()

Dick . . . sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations. Never been through a storm like that -- never want to. Glad to hear your hard work and preparations paid off in spades, and that best of all you and yours are safe.

Gail, Glad things were a bit kinder in your direction. I'm between seattle and tacoma in the city of Auburn. It's called the green river valley and the wind funnels thru here pretty strong. The green river is a few feet from spilling over this am as well.....I don't know what was worse...the storm...or the news hype preceding it, now that it's past I'm not watching it anymore to let the nerves settle back down! LOL

Thanks Don....you know the way weather has been getting cracier each year, it really does pay to be prepared. I'd hate to think what could have happened if i wasn't ready. BTW what surprised me was how fast i went thru the gas. I thought 3 canisters of gas would hold me and if the lights hadn't come on when they did, I was about ready to make a drive around looking for a pocket of power at a gas station so I could fill up the empty two cans...

I also heard that the state of Oregon got hit along the coast fairly hard. Birdman called this am when i was still without power and said he had a minor short outage and discovered his leaf trap lid had bl0wn off but was in good shape. I quess the portland area had it just as bad as Seattle

Loved the photos gail! next time I move, I'm gonna get an automatic generator set up for the pond and house so that I don't have to run out there and turn all the dials and crank the start coil. It will do it automatically. Anytime it appears to be stormy i always feel i have to hang around the house and that can cramp a person's style. Back in the good olde days, when the koi keepers from BC would come over and bring fish to our show(seattle) and we to theirs ( before hassel of back and forth thru boarder) I had several good friends that koi helped to introduce me to from canada. Always the most graciouis hosts and most fun at parties...... least your last photo shows that not all the geese fly south for the winter!!!!
