Usually, the fish will act up when the system is approaching. This is when the barometer is dropping. They are accustomed to high pressure. When the low moves in things change and it irritates their lateral liine sensory abillity. Once the front is actually in, they've had the time to adjust. Then they settle down. Once the front moves on through, you'll notice they behave differently and start to relax. That's when you'll see the blood vessels in their shoulder area start to clear up.
I would strongly suggest installing the sight glass in your discharge line. You will be amazed at the diiference. You will actually be able to see that when you go from backwash to rinse that the rinse cycle will blow a small cloud back out. Once this has cleared, then return directly to filter. The additional discharge has been eliminated and you won't get the blow-by back into the pond. We don't install a bead filter for our customers without one!
