Koi Fish Tattoo

I was watching a few minutes of a program, "Miami ink" In the program they said the customers got a koi tattoo because it symbolised good luck. Does anyone know the origins of this belief?

Thanks

I've heard many times that koi symbolize good luck to the Japanese, particularly black koi. There is a Japanese man in Maine who owns a restaurant who had all his koi taken from him because of the ban there. He commented that the koi were good luck for him, as well.

I read koi symbolizes great strength and masculinity. The 'Warrior's Fish' also can symbolize 'Love' and emotional stuff like that.

Just some info.:

"The Japanese 'Koi' In Malaysia
Fish lovers will certainly have a lot to say about the beauty and good luck charms that certain fishes naturally have in good amounts. Today, we shall look at the Japanese Koi (Cyprinus Carpio) which is increasingly kept by many fish enthusiasts, for the good luck or 'ong' as the Chinese call it."

"Tip #2 ~ Activate Good Luck with Goldfish: Placing goldfish, koi or carp inside your home or office aquarium will activate good luck. To generate the most luck, use nine fish – eight red or golden and one black. The most favorable place to position the aquarium is the living room of your home"
