I started moving some threads to the best of section and saw a post by MikeM about photos of koi that decline rather then get better (which is what we usually post). So without further ado here is my shusui that went downhill fast over last winter.
This is Spring 2005
Here it is in Nov of 05 and I thought it was doing pretty good
And here it was in the spring and is totally ruined.
Needless to say I'm done with shusui for now.
many times a nice koi like this one can be "brought back" by putting it in a neutral PH situation and low GH/KH. I think the water that gosanke finish with and what maintains our belowed asagi/shusui are 2 different waters.
I know Arthur from Oregon Koi who posts here with us knows how to build a unit to provide the best kind of water for these koi and is much cheaper than the standard RO water. Maybe we will get lucky and have him catch this thread.
I think the higher quality of asagi/shusui you get the easier it is and the more suseptible they are to "going south"....Hang in there JIm....Next fall let's pick a good Asagi out at the fall draining of quality koi......

Sad to see your Shusui goto the darkside. To think of it, I have been through many Asagis, Shusuis and Aka Matsubas to keep one that can stand the the water hardness. I have 2 Asagis who are main stays in the pond now and I think I'll keep for a long while.
Wasn't this one of the fish in your mudpond experiment? If so, what happened this summer?

Yes it was...and I believe I posted something on my website about that. A funny thing happened to the mudpond. It got overrun with lillies. So I am awaiting for early spring. I can tell you though the shimmies got worse. I caught a glimpse of it the last time I was there.
