I haven't turned off my Wave Dragon 1/3hp pump on the Ultima 20000 for 4 years now. Still doesn't leak!! You just have to be able to move the handle between functions quickly enough to overcome the pressure build-up problem they talk about.

As far as your brand of bead filter, why would you want to leave the pump running while using a blower? Sounds like you'd be trying to do 2 functions at once!?

I can think of three reasons. 1.The instructions are not very clear. 2. I wasn't able to figure out the correct technique on my own. 3. It's embrassing to ask for directions.

Actually I thought the blower just made the backwashing more efficient, so it used less water to accomplish the task. So what does the opening the bottom gate valve do? Like I tried to explain earlier, the instructions say to open this first, but never tell you to close it back. Water pours out the 1.5" pipe, but clears quickly. I guess you close it then. They really need to write some backwashing instructions for Dummies. Like me.

That gate valve is actually a little dangerous. It opens quite easily and drains a *lot* of water. If it got opened accidentally by a child or a puppy it could totally drain some poorly designed ponds. It's like the main gasket blowing, but much, much worse.

Instruction Manual, Maintenance Continued, p. 12, Backwashing Your Filter:

1. Turn pump off.
2. Depress valve knob, rotate lever to backwash.
3. Turn pump on.
4. Backwash until sight glass is clear ( about 1/2 to 1 minute).
5. Turn pump off.
6. Depress knob and turn to rinse.
7. Turn pump on.
8. Rinse until sight glass is clear.
9. Repeat steps 1 through 8 twice for a total of 3 times.
10. Turn pump off.
11. Depress valve and turn back to filter.
12. Turn pump on and return to normal usage.

Instruction Manual, Warranty Continued, p. 2:

Warranty is voided by the following:
line 5: Product damage caused by failing to turn pump off when switching the handle setting.

Sorry, but it still does not tell me whose filter it is. Who makes the Bio Wave 60? I read post #4, but it does not list the manufacturer there.

Well gosh Don. That's not the instuctions WLim includes with the Bio Wave filters. Start at the beginning of the thread and read it all. It's not that long.

No, my post didn't address you or your filter -- it addressed the two other folks on this thread (moikoi & koiczar) who were talking about not turning off the pump with their Ultima II's filters.

I thought the Title of my post (Ultima II filters) made that clear? Sorry . . .
