How about another question

What percentage/numers of your members participate in your clubs show, either in working it or exibiting?

Steve, we get about 4 to 6 members in our club to help, and the rest is from other local clubs and the guys from NorCal. Everyone wants to have a show, but they don't want to help put it all together. When the show is over and it is cleanup time, no one is there. So our club has started hiring 2 guys from homedepot to setup and breakdown the show, it cost us $400 and 4 lunches for the workers. For the last couple years we have helped a local ZNA club set up there show, most of the members are much older than us. So they are unable to do a lot of the manual labor. They even hire a couple guys to help with set up and breakdown. I remember last year Art & Nicole even helped with the setup. Here in California, I would say the majority of the clubs are facing the same problems, everyone wants a show, but each club has only a handful of workers, and this gets very discouraging, they get burnt out from being so overwhelmed, I remember a couple years ago another club here locally were the show chairman had to leave the banquet he was feeling so bad from over exertion. And was in bed for a week. Heck for the last 3 years at our show, I have been sicker than a dog, I remember trying to entertain the judges and all I did was cough, and blow my nose. I was a walking virus.

I think what Nancy has pointed out is the biggest problem with shows. There are never enough club members for set up and clean up. I think clubs should just face the facts and budget money for outside labor. I know the Portland show donates money to a local school and ten or fifteen teens show up and do a lot of the work. I was witness to it this year and it seemed to work really well.

Maybe more club members would show if they did not have to face the task of set up or clean up. Just a thought.

It's kinda funny when I helpout at shows and this prior to the ZNA NorCal Club being formed alot of the help for shows were people outside of the club's membership. With membership for some clubs in the 100+'s there should be atleast 30% helping with the show or showing fish....

It seems, though, that there are a lot of people joining clubs that know absolutely nothing and they are there to learn. I think they think that they can't show, or that showing is too difficult. I have heard many people say that they don't show because they have no way of getting there Koi to a show.
