Thank's for all the comments . I do plan on leaving Her over the 2008 growout period if Mat & I feel it will help her reach her full development .

To this day , I remember my wifes face () when I told her "I bought a koi , and if where Lucky , we'll get her in the spring of 2009" !!!

Hard for some to have the understanding of the patience required for high quality fish. I'll be hunting for something to leave in Japan this next week while in Isawa. Just hope my beer pocket book will handle what my champagne appetite sees that I like!!LOL... Oh yeah, my boss(wife) doesn't need to know either!!

ok...I'm learning from this thread. I have this kohaku and was considering letting it go. Now I'm thinking twice. The pic on the left was at 4 inches. The 2 pics on the right are at 8-9 inches. I thought the pattern was boring..but maybe it's a big fish pattern. I was also intrigued with the maruzome kiwa. The only other thing I don't like was the hi extends onto the cheek. What do you guys think..a keeper or seller?!?!
Thanks again guys...it's always an education here!!!

I don't have a better shot of it. In the middle photo, it's actually more on the gill plate on the fishes right side. Doesn't wrap around the eye. I was going to dump it because I have another kohaku with a much better pattern. But, the quality of the sashi and kiwa is not as good. The other is a definite male...this one may be female. Sometimes...you really have to take a better look at what you already have. Like the song says..It not getting what you want, but wanting what you've got (Sheryl Crow)

Here is the other one I'm talking about. Actually won best kohaku size 1..but really needs to tighten up a great deal to do more. The sashi is going to be the issue.

It just goes to show you, pattern is not everything. Quality rules.

Troy: Love your kohaku and can't wait to see it out of the mud next year. Simple pattern but very high quality.

Brutuscz: Sorry, but I just don't see a lot of potential in either one of your kohakus. Now go ahead -- grow 'em on and prove me wrong. Don
