Cool Day 2 Isawa - Yamamoto Showas!

Today began as a bright, sunny day. A perfect day for hunting the ever elusive showa. After meeting with Yamamoto yesterday, we told him what we would like to see, he drained down the ponds that we wanted to look in and set up a blue showtank filled with 40 or so Nisai Showa that he had hand selected for us. It was great!!

How much fun do you think it would be to wake up and see nothing but showa. It was good for me.

Meet the breeder.

Next Was Yamamoto Sansai!

We could not stop at Nisai so we decided to take a look at a few Sansai.

It Was a Day of Culling for Toshio Sakai

Tosai are coming soon. Tosai have to be culled many times and seperated into different grades. It is a really exciting time and, for us, a fun and eventful learning experience.

Father and Son

It was really neat to come out back and see Toshi and Toshio working together.

When I think about Toshio Sakai (Matsunosuke) what usually comes to mind is Koi. When I think of Koi I think of the mountains in the Ojiya-Nagaoka area. The Isawa region is a Hot Springs Resort area and the Isawa Nishikigoi Center is in the middle of a town. This town is not full of Koi breeders. When you look to one side of his facility you see a park and some homes. On the other side is a larger downtown area. It just seems odd to see all of these wonderful Koi in the middle of a bustling, busy town where most people have things to do that don't involve koi.
