Thank you for sharing all these great photos. I'll never forget my 1st trip to Japan and I.N.C. in Isawa. We saw and especially learned more about top quaility koi with T. Sakai than at any other breeders by far. Each trip to Japan has been gifted by a koi seminar from Tashio. He not only shows examples of what is high quality but also what is not quality. He is very patient explaining what to look for with beni and also sumi. I also have learned a lot about conformation as he shows all sizes of koi from tosai to gosai and even older. It always thrills and also scares the heck out of me when he pulls up a huge potential All Japan Show Grand Champion contender to end his seminar with a amazing jumbo beauty. I am terrified it is going to jump out of the tub and ruin it's future show chances. He calmly stands there and explains what is special about the koi. Of course his assistants are nerviously hovering over the tub to stop a disaster from occuring.

Last January Martha & I spent several hours with Toshio looking at the different types and quality of beni on kohaku, sanke and showa. I made the mistake of telling him I was training to be a AKCA koi judge. He pulled four nisai sankes for me to rank and I also had to explain my choices. It was a priceless judging excercise with one of the best koi breeders in the world.

If you can possibly get to any of Toshio's koi seminars like the one in N. California you will be very glad you attended. If I did not already have vacation plans that are unchangable I would be one of the attendees.

That is really cool rayjordan, you mind telling us how you did judging his fish?
Toshio sakai is a really open minded person and really cares about what you say, no matter how uneducated it may be. Those kind of people really shine in our world dont they?
