Yes, they have very similar qualities.

Tony, Russ

Yes, that would be a very interesting question to pose.

Russ,

Didn't Sakai say that when the GC was a tosai/nisai, nobody would buy it. The quality just wasn't evident at that stage of it's life. Well, look who's laughing now!!HaHaHa

Tony

After seeing this fish (GC) in person, and then seeing first hand, Sakai's new line of Magoi Bloodline showa, it would be a tough choice.

What was really a shocker at the show was that the Dainichi Showa was only 84cm. There were at least two or three kohaku that were over 90cm that were awesome but this fish was probably the very best I've ever seen in person! Bar none!!!! I also understand that this fish hit the trifecta - Nogyosai, Rinyukai and Shinkokai Champions within a 6 month period. Now that's sayin' somethin'!!!

Nancy, Do you have pictures from the rest of your trip? Didn't you go south?

Hi Russ
I have pictures but most of them are scenery, and bonsai. We have other interest besides koi when we go to Japan we love Bonsai, so we went to a couple bonsai growers. But we did make it to a few breeders, Dainichi, Isa, Marudo. Also I think Nagaoka is North, and it was colder than $hit there, it was snowing and raining. But the beauty of it all, at this time of year, was just breath taking.

Hi nancy,

The reason I said South was because I thought you might have gone to the Hiroshima area.

Bonsai and scenery pictures are always intersting.

Yes, you are correct, we were thinking of going to Hiroshima to the war memorial, but decided to go look at all the pretty fishies instead.

Guess you had to be there.

Well Mike and Russ I'll defer to your judgement. My viewpoint is a few too many thousand miles away. It appears to me though that the scales are more translucent than normal. This is not to say that the quality of these fish has no depth, but rather the scales facilitate the presentation of that quality. The trailing edges of the scales look like windows into the depth of color and pattern that is developing beneath and on top of the next scale. Just a guess, and as I said I defer to your expert opinions.
