beginner's bonsai

I like to look an bonsai, read a bonsai book many years ago, and have always thought it would be a fun thing to do. When Walter Liew (http://www.fukubonsai.com/5a14.html) announced that he would teach a bonsai class at the local community college, that was my cue to finally get serious about these things. School starts in a couple of weeks so I should start doing some reading in order to get the most out of it.

Could you folks please direct me to favorite/appropriate bonsai web sites and discussion forums.

Thanks,
-steveh

good for you steve, your gonna love it! I lead the puget sound Bonsai south end study group, and we meet tomorrow. Can't wait. I really don't have a favorite chat line....atleast to recommend. I probably have a library of several hundred books. Tho probably my first ones, I still love the two book set of John naka's, which when he was still alive he autographed for me. Also being 10 minutes from the weyerhauser bonsai exhibit that challenges that other washington's site for the best national collection of trees from around the world helps keep me encouraged.

What I've found is so much of koi filtration and soil preparation for bonsai have common ground.

I'm excited for you...let us know how it goes...

Although I am not able to have bonsai in the dry Colorado air, I do enjoy/admire them.
While visiting England, I met Mark Cooper, one of our fellow koi hobbyists(and Koi-Bito member), and also a true master of bonsai. He shared with me some of the most elegant, gorgeous examples. I will never forget them.
The above site is one which he is a member. I think you will enjoy as I have.
Thanks, Mark.

I was just wanting to let you know, but I am not sure if you know this. They are almost always having sales at walmart for bonsai. I have purchased a few and most have lived a really long while, and unfortunately some havent.
I think you should go and check them out.
