The Pond Was Made By Frank Morales. I Just Added Another Layer Of Jap Mat And A 10k Ultima. Planning On Adding Another Waterfalls. Which Will Require To Dig On The Side Of The Existing Waterfalls. And Move The Output Of The 20k Ultima To The New Chamber Which I Will Be Using Static K1.

I AM USING 2 1/3HP ARTESIAN PUMP WHICH I CONVERTED TO 230V. PRACTICALLY CHANGING THE RPM TO A 1/2HP. i RECENTLY INCREASED THE WATERFALLS THAT'S WHY THE WATER LEVEL IS THAT HIGH.

How do you get a 1/3 pump to become a 1/2 hp pump by changing from 115 to 230?

Michael . . .

1. Frank build my pond, too, and he put an adjustable standpipe in the vortex settling tank; it controls the water level. Am sure he did the same for you.

You should adjust it for an approximate 5" gap between top of water and top of wall. I would think that setting it higher could cause problems with jumpers?

2. Increasing the turnover (more gallons per hour) will not increase the water level -- so that's not a function of your pump modifications.

Hi Nancy,

The Artesian Is A Low Speed Pump. When I Swithed The Voltage From 110v To 230v. The Rpm Of The Pump Also Increases. Which Is Equivalent To A 1/2hp Low Spped. Now I'm Also Using Lower Amps For Two 1/3 Hp. On The Motor It Will Show That When You Swithch It To 230/240v. It Is Also Energy Efficient. For A 1/2 Hp There Is Not Much Of A Difference But The Amps Your Using Will Drop By At Least Half.

I agree you will cut the energy use alot, but the flow rate will not change at all.

LOL, didn't know he snapped pix when he stopped by for milk and cookies this morning.

I guess you can see how badly all the plants got clobbered by the recent Arctic combo of frost and high winds. Gonna talk a long time to grow 'em all back, I'm afraid.

Someone needs to talk to an electrician

Switching a pump from 110 to 220 will not increase the rpm and thus not the flow rate. What it does is supply 2 legs of 110 at 1/2 the original amperage to each leg. What it does do is makes it easier for the pump to start and stop....not typically a concern in a ppond application. When a motor strats, it draws more amerage than at running speed. By reducing (splitting) that intitial amerage draw, it takes less wear and tear on the motor....which is a concern for motor applications that are constantly starting and stopping.
