SO true. Not all koi bred from best oyagoi produce 100% .. Before most of us see the final product many are sold as chuppa.

For the Record Kodama used to be a breeder in Japan. I think now he is more into making the fortune 500 cover

Lucky? NO...Shot I remember before 96 (Dot Bomb) you could by a house here for around $250-300K....Now that $250-300K house is selling for $950K-$1.5M....Now where's the logic in that? The average household income here in the valley has to be atleast $150K...Does it have it's pro's and con's? YES...

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Crapagoi"??? You should know better than to call any koi a "crapagoi" That's fighting word if used in person, so why use it on the net? "crapagoi" to you may be tategoi to someone else. A true koi keeper will never call anyone's kois ugly or crap. I've got a koi from Walmart, but because it was given to me by a friend that passed away, it's the most special koi to me, because it has a deeper meaning, than any koi purchased. BTW, is that you buying up OR bumping up the prices on Kodama auctions? If it is, when are your pond(s) going to be filled with all these "crapagoi" LOL! Not a single show quality, but excellent pond quality and good for amatures. Definitely not impressive for the true nishikigoi enthusiasts. SO, is that you KOICZAR? Please let me know when you're done bump'n up the prices.

Thanks,
Shiro

Koi Auction

Is it cool to auction off kois with deformities, fin rot, open sores, damaged fins and missing scales? If so, why? Also, why are these kois selling like hot cakes? I see koiczar winning quit a few of them

Thanks,
Shiro

Shiro,
That's not our koiczar. And this is America. Let the buyer beware I think they call it.
Mitch

PS
Consider it a rumor, but I have heard that the koiczar you're referring to is actually a dealer.

Mitch , I PM'ed koiczar and asked the same question last week , it's not him . The "Other" koiczar bids on half the koi on the site .

I have seen them sell koi with bad fins , scares , etc. but not koi that are sick at the time of the auction . I see them post that a kohaku may have a small black dot . I would be interested in hearing about problems that some may have had ? I do look over there from time to time .

Troy,
Yeah, I asked Mike P the same thing way back when and he said it was someone else. In fairness to Kodama I think they do point out flaws and I also think their fish are generally healthy when they ship. As far as the fish having a retail value that is equal to what is claimed on the website, well I'm not completely sold on that.
Mitch
