Funny you should mention mud ponds Marie. I am working on one now, sort of. It's not going to be a terribly easy one to seine because of where it is. We are making use of a natural gully that is loaded with springs. Right now, it's heavly wooded and full of briars. We started a dam last year and the water against the dam is maybe 36" deep in that spot, but still with downed trees. Water flows constantly thru it. the cool thing is, once it's done it will be at the edge of my big shade garden. Lots of deep shade from the huge old growth oaks and hickory with beds loaded with hostas and ferns (not done yet....hoping to plant my hosta collection in the spring). It will be SO pretty! But that's just one of many projects going on around here. We are also building a 5 acre pond. It is started, but we won't work on it until the house is done. I have a place to put in some "proper" mud ponds too. There is just so many things I want to get done and not enough hours in the day to do them.
Want to see my ring tank? This one is made from a 4' shell of stainless steel. I got it for scrap prices. I set it in the yard, got inside and dug the dirt out so it would sink down, and built a cedar housing for it. It's 1300 gallons. Great for growing out fish or as a QT for larger ones.
