Aquarium is 65 gallons, waaaaaay too small for any long term confinement and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone without serious serious filtration and aeration, and definately not for anything other than temporary QT/hospital tank. Can't wait to get 'em outta there....

Little pearl again:

So Brown came down my drive today and I am a lucky woman all over again

This time it's the Tigerlily's sister--and boy is she lovely! Her beni is so thick it almost appears to be dripping down her sides. Here's a few pics and more to come when she's decompressed and all whitened up again:

And a quick artsy fartsy one:

Nice body shape. You'll not excite some folks with the single step. Not quite Inazuma, but I like it. Will look better as she matures.

With that simple, elegant pattern she'll likely become the "lady of the lake" as she grows on. Her body indicates a lot of growth potential, so you'd better give her plenty of room

*nodnod* Thanks Mike. Yeah, I knew that the single step pattern was an either love it or hate it thing with some folks, and probably why I got the koi for the mere pittance I paid for it. Me, I find it ultra elegant. This girl is a real deep hunky chunk fish--more powerful and more muscular than the Tigerlily, and if I'm looking at the tape measure at the bottom of the QT right, she's an honest 20" long.

Her beni is completely different from the T-Lily's--NOT the soft persimmon hi but classic, deep, candy apple red that is typically seen on Richard's males, and the lustre is outstanding. It's so thick around the dorsal one cannot make out the scalation. If I can get some good shots today, I'll post some close ups of it so we can all see the difference.

Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate it.

Marie

Aye, Lady of the Lake she certainly should be. This fish trumps the Tigerlily for overall size and girth and has a completely different expression of "koi." When I can post some close up pics of this different beni you'll be able to see what I'm talking about. Still has the matsunosuke gin, but the scalation is different--not so convex as the Tigerlily's or the Little Pearl's and the color is deeper and richer. If the day isn't as busy as it's supposed to be, I'll try and get more pics up today...

...but for now, one from last night, sans flash. Not great resolution-wise, but will give some idea of just how massive a fish this is:

(You might even be able to make out a hint of the beni shade and thickness in this one--better pics of that later)
Marie

Well, no time like the present. You'll have to overlook the hard water drips down the glass that I missed--can't see 'em until the flash and it takes too much painstaking work to shop 'em out after the fact...

Check out this beni:

See how thick it is around the dorsal fin, and how it seems to "drip" down into the shiroji along the edges? Richard's trademark lustre is definitely there, as is the matsunosuke gin along the edge of the scales. They're flatter and bigger than the Tigerlily's but no less beautiful.

Surprised I got these next shots so fast:

Big BIG fish, and the photo makes it look as long as the tank...
