Well, its true! I know my fish aren't capable of winning any contests...and I know that they are nice hobby grade fish...many longfins....all with what my wife and I think are interesting patterns. SUre, I want to get to the point where I have some AAA grade fish...but that's gonna take some time. We are still paying doctor bills for our daughter's birth. All I can do is get my filtration to where I need it...practice on raising the fish that I have...medicate when needed....and then, once I feel that I have reached professional knowledge...then I will branch out and ask for a $10,000 3-step for my birthday.

I told you that you probably could have convinced your wife that a ginrin was appropriate for your silver anniversary.

Bunch of bull crap.

Please speak for yourself next time.
Sorry, Ben, looks like I offended you, too. So please let me rephrase that.

How's this? As a general rule of thumb, most of the knowledgeable, evolved koi keepers here really don't enjoy looking at scrolls of speckldigois and ugly pond mutts . . . There are, however, some exceptions to this generality.

Better, eh?

do not feel bad ethan my brother. quality fish require big $. That not true all the time. Sometime you can still have your best with your least. my best fish was $7 kohaku, it start out not too red but now, a $200 8" Brett is no comparison. Even with mr Ray $100 Spring Fish sale last year. The secret: You have to know what you doing. Keep reading, train your eye, predict the fish future. I myself do not have that feel until thousand $ have been spend ! Once Brett told me he can see the future of the fish 2 years down the road. i think i can do that too after 2 years into the hobby with all the reading and listening and watching. Know what you doing, do not discourage.

are all my koi krap? I thought the yellow ogon was pretty decent....I think its female...

right now...all I can do is train my eye to pick the best of the domestic koi that I have options of buying. FOR NOW, I am not going to pay shipping on a koi, and cannot validate purchasing a $35.00 koi when it nearly costs that for a tin of baby formula.

Just sayin that there are plenty of newbies out there who might remain at the newbie fish level but begin to excel at the koi knowledge level....

I know what a $300 fish looks like and I know what a $30 fish looks like.

Mine are $10 fish.

Don,You didn't offend me at all. Both you and I have been around this board and the hobby too long to get offended easily. I just don't think it is appropriate to discourage new peple to the hobby from displaying their current collection regardless of quality.I myself always enjoy speckldigois and ugly pond mutts because they remind me of my beginning in the hobby.Absolutely, no hard feeling at all Don.I haven't posted in a long time but always read all threads to keep up with things.

Ben . . .

Good. Glad that's behind us.

As for 'appropriateness,' I will agree with you that the first time the pics are posted it's a kind of benchmark.

Hopefully you'll agree with me that after that, however, posting them again would constitute cruel and unusual punishment! Best,
