Yes , I understand that you would want The Hi & Sumi to finish at the same time . This is one of those koi you love to see every 12 months , to see how it improves .

Thanks

I don't buy into the "hi finishing with time" theory. This is just a picture of a fish, not a live koi in front of us so I can't say anything about the quality of the beni. But my experience has been, on the subject of hi, that you either have quality beni from the beginning or that you don't. I've never seen beni "improve" with time. I have seen beni go south and I have seen quality beni "hold". Of course, sumi is a totally different subject.

I was reffering to the new sumi Toshio has been working on , I got the ones from him that did not make the mud ponds and sumi looked simmilar I would say that all that sumi is going to come through but it will take time 5 years is nothing to the Japanese Whith such fast growth it is a wonder that so much has come through . I am asking myself why they did not let it grow for another year hopefully because it was a long term fish and they had better . I am not familliar with Aio II . It is nice to know the bloodlines .
Regards
Eugene

I think you are reffering to Toshio Sakai of Isawa about the sumi. This showa is from Sakai Hiroshima.

I live in Brunei which have a warm tropical climate.Bringing out the sumi will not be a problem.I will be netting up an Ogata showa today to get an update on that koi.Its been a year since I last measured her or take photos. You will be able to see how the sumi have come out on her.

Here is an example of hi finishing with time. On the left, the kohaku was about 4-5inches...and you can see all the scales are showing and the hi is lacking depth. In the middle and right picture (about 9 inches)...the scales are not as visible and the difference is very noticeable. In the book kokugyu 2...Mr. Kodama gives many fine examples of this.
In the second photo(I lifted off a website somewhere..a while ago) You can see the same thing...in the pic on the right..the scales are not visible and the hi is much deeper.

Any back ground on the first fish? The second set is almost certainly Brady's.
