I'm quessing the showa is bred by Isa? I wish i had a photo to see when it was first acquired. Many times this bloodline will give you a false heavy black in the tail as tosai and then crawl back in the next 2 years to reveal it's tailstop red. If you have an earlier pic could you please post.

Here's a small poor quality pic that was supplied when the fish were divided. Not a great picture though. It was cropped out of the original group picture.

It's domestic bred.

Based on the knowledge that it is not who I suspected it was ( that i have some knowledge of how his stuff evolves ) not the fact it's domestic, I would recommend finding a good home for it. Someplace close where you can keep an eye on it to continue your knowledge of how it develops.

Looking at the picture, you can see that the quality of the sumi and beni were poor to start with. I don't mean to offend, just offering my honest opinion.

I'm not offended at all Russell. I posted this picture here because I wanted honesty and that is what I have gotten. I appreciate that! This fish will get a new home as soon as the water warms up a bit in the spring.

It's only easy because I never liked this fish from the start. I have to admit I do have a couple of not-so-pretty ones that will never be culled, just because I like them so much. This showa is just a fish.....not a pet.

Since Brady is easy to contact I would ask his opinion since he knows his fish the best. Based on what I am seeing I would probably give up on it unless he talked me into giving more time. I have a bad memory, I think you had a mud pond on property but hard to siene. Maybe leaving some fish there maybe someday harvisting it would be a good way to go.

Ryan, the big mud pond is not done so he can't go in there. There would be no way to get him back out to finish working on the pond. If that pond was ready for fish, that's where I would put him though.
