Showas,...

Hi Cindy,

If you're unhappy with it you should pass it on to a friend in your area that would enjoy it,... or if you have the space, keep it around for a while to learn from since you've had it since tosai. You don't have very much invested in it. Showas are difficult, and if you can just learn a little from a Showa about sumi, about motoguro, or how sumi interacts with beni, that bit of knowledge might be worth way more to you. Unfortunately not every Koi grows up to be spectacular,... and as our eye and koi appreciation improve, fewer and fewer Koi meet our expectations. This is "Koi" though. If they all grew up to be spectacular,... well, Koi would have no value or intrigue.

Since it was a "lottery" pick, you had no choice in the selection. Those things can go both ways. In your case the Showa got a good pick,... in that it got a good home and an owner who is diligent in her care. In lotterys or raffles sometimes the Koi gets a bad pick too. I say keep it for a while if you can learn something from it, or pass it on to a friend who might get more enjoyment from it.

Best Wishes,
Brady

Thanks for your input Brady. I appreciate it. Maybe what I'll do is put her on the list to cull as space is needed and just watch what she does in the mean time. Even though I don't like her, it doens't mean I can't learn something from her!
