My 2 new hopefuls

I am pretty much a lurker around here but thought i would post a picture of my 2 new koi that are waiting for the deep freeze to go away.these were purchased from Quaility koi and so far the expierience has been great.they were very honest about their koi.so here are my 2 female sisters from matsunosuke bloodlines.shiro is 22.5 and showa 21.5 and born summer of 2004.can not wait for the next few years and hope the sumi will come out on these 2.i have very good luck with sumi coming out so this will be fun.
Thanks for looking and comments are welcome and i am a big boy so will not be offended.

whoa...fed well!!! Big bodies....it will all come down to the sumi...so pray and flip a coin. Excellent if the sumi comes up...heartbreaking if it doesn't.

I remember seeing that showa on their website, and I remember really being drawn to it. Those two should be fun to watch!

Okay, here's my 2 cents on your 2 new hopefuls - LOL!! First off, the shiro. If this is truly from the Matsunosuke stock that Mat has, then it is a failed showa as Sakai doesn't breed shiro utsuris. However, having said that, it may be a blessing in disguise as most shiros don't develop a body like that at 2 years old, especially the ozutsu. Man, that fish has a to-die for tail tube. If the sumi comes up and you don't get any secondary hi, it's gonna be a killer fish!

The showa - I have taken a liking to Kindai Showas and this one has a lot going for it. Again, very strong body for a 2 year old and nice skin quality. I can't see the left gill plate but it doesn't appear to have any sumi on it at this point, that's why there's no motoguro on the left pec. Hope for sumi to show up somewhere there and the motoguro will follow suit. Otherwise, these will be two very nice fish to watch over the next 2 years (at least).

Mike

Thanks for your responses so far.I am not much for a kindia showa but this one caught my eye.Is it necessary on a kindia to have sumi going down on the left side also?i know it would prefered but being Kindia can i get away with it on a lesser demerit?
the shiro is a sister to the showa.i am a big showa and shiro fan and love to watch the progress of the sumi coming up and where it will come.i am not as far along on my liking of kohaku because all you can see is the red and white and not that good of eye yet to see the deth coming in on the hi but can easily see the sumi develop over time.yes a gamble but very happy with the price and if they turnout really great price and i will be happy as white on rice,if they do not develop then i say DANG IT! but still happy with price and maybe do a fun spawn in future when i know it will not get better.

I believe I saw that Shiro in person. The small amount of Sumi is a concern in the photo, but in person the body mass and strength left so powerful an impression that the Sumi was an afterthought. She may never have a perfect Shiro pattern, but you'll not find many Shiros with such structure. I could imagine Shiromuji gaining a toehold among koikeepers if they had such bodies, heads and clean whites.

As for the Showa, well, there's hardly ever a Showa I don't like.

Paul . . .

since you're not a show circuit junkie, the relatively minor pattern demerits pale in comparison to the excellent conformation these two koi show.

I should expect you will get many, many years of enjoyment from watching these girls in your pond. I know I would.

Patterns, unless desired for show, can be subjective, so if you like them that's all that matters.

Both koi are appealing from a body shape standard.

One of the things i do when I'm curious about what black is there, is to roll the koi over and look at the fins on the underside. the more black to see on the anal and vent fins the better the chances.

My quess on both these koi are what you see is what you get.

The showa Henry C. picked from the same parents has that attractive button nose. very appealing

I have seen submerged sumi on showa and shiro clearer by taking a flash pic at night, in a bowl, with no supplememtal lighting.

not a show circuit junkie yet.do not have the wallet to compete for GC but last year did one show and ready for more.the show i did was the MPKS show in chicago and was lucky enough to win size 5 and size 6.i just can not wait to get these koi if the below 0 weather goes away.
shows close enough will be the MPKS and midwest ZNA show(was going to show last year but meeting for my job changed that)louisville and the new show in Minnesota.will maybe take a few smaller ones to a few or just show up for the beer.Just wish i had some show people by me to really coach me along.
My history of growing up was registered brown swiss dairy cattle that we exported and showed on state and national level(sold cattle 9 years ago).so now trying to figure this koi hobby out.
