There are many ways to learn what a good koi looks like.

Reading koi books and magazines, attending koi shows and seminars, joining koi clubs and seeing member's collections, reviewing threads on koi forums.

One of the absolute worst ways to learn is by critiquing a picture of a bad example and trying to explain why it isn't a good one.

One of the best ways to learn is to click on this site's banner ads. By surfing these highly reputable sites you can see thousands of examples of koi for sale, which will help to develop your eye. And it's free.

Don..in this case I mean it like Gin=silver....or as with a platinum sheen. Similar to a gin shiro utsuri..it has that metallic sheen..but doitsu. You can see it as a variety on JKO. That is where I discovered the name. They used to sellny of them last season...but I haven't seen them this year.

Great advice....I appreciate it. You know what the real thing is when you look at the originals...makes sense.

Been lurking for over 1 year here and posting on other sites for a couple. I agree with you on what you are saying to Ethan... But the point I want to make is. When some one creates a thread no matter how dumb it my sound to a 20 + year pond/koi guru.. It does help with the education of the person posting and also starts other people refreshing there skills. As a matter of fact I just learned something from this thread... Maybe showing Ethan a nice bekko would help clear things up to. Since his is not the best example... Here's one

These words have correct meanings and the platinum metallic sheen you are talking about on your doitsu koi is properly referred to as hikari.
