Lack of local shows and lack of money to travel to the ones that aren't local. Two local shows this year and both are in September. It'll be a busy month .

Worried I'll kill my pride and joy by doing something newbie-stupid wagging it to a show is probably the #1 deterrent for me. Never shown, never even bagged a fish and not having the proper equipment is a big deterrent. So is not having some experienced someone near by that actively shows to mentor me or go to shows with is another.

In the end it comes down to the well-being of my koi. If I can't feel confident enough that I won't damage or kill them in that particular learning curve, I just won't do it.

Period.

Well, not having anything worth showing in my case.

But second reason would be same as Marie's, totally clueless as to manage the whole thing.

Our local club, Santa Clara Valley Koi Club, is haveing a presentation this month on this very topic. Our own Koiczar and another fine koi kichi, Dan R.,will be giving the talk, or I should say, show and tell, lol.

SCVKC and ZNA NorCal, are putting on the Sakura Koi Show together, so this will be a very timely talk. I'm looking forward to it.

I would show mine, but I'm 600 miles from the closest show (Denver). And, if I'm going to drive that far and show I better win.... .....however with my current collection that won't happen.

I do hope to make the Denver and Sac. shows this year as a fan!

That is a very timely topic, Barb. Is the presentation open to the general public? My plate is really full this month so it's probably wishful thinking on my part that I could go that far and be gone a full day, but wonders never cease.

Honestly, I've even toyed with the idea to bring my least loved koi to a show, a canary or sacrificial fish if you will, to test my competence in yet another facet of koi keeping.

I'm always on the edge of wrecking, I really am......so yeah, it's scary.

Marie

Sure Marie, the public is always welcome, and you would be especially welcomed!
This month's meeting is this Friday, I know it's short notice, but hope you can make it. If you came during the day you could also visit several great dealers in the area. (We are so spoiled here, lol!)
Meetings are generally the 3rd Friday of the month, 7:30pm, except in December, cause we have a PARTY!

Check out the newsletter pdf file, I think it's one of the best!

Speaking of looking forward, I'm looking forward to finally meeting you, Burt, and Henry C at the OKC show in May. It will be our first, but I'm not sure if we'll be showing or not. Most of our Koi are just pond grade (combined with our lack of show prep experience) but we hope to learn much from working at this years show to help us along the way...
