kujaku question

Is it reasonable to expect the matsuba pattern of a kujaku to develop over time, with proper water conditions (hard water?) etc., even if by 13" it is somewhat faint, such as the one seen on the fish below?

Yes, in fact starting with the matsuba faint like this is a good thing. Like Asagi's if the color is too dark when they are young it will be muddy when they mature.

I like it, it has a simple pattern, but it is bright and clean. Very pleasing to the eye.

good rule of thumb for any koi that has sumi or ai to come up in the beni pattern (color) the longer it takes to get there the better the quality. Your peacock is a pretty koi, keep up the good work
