well Stan, Free, it can not be! But you all could hold a lottery and each member puts in $100. The winner gets the pot to go to Japan!

I was thinking two to three members from each of our chapters. And a selected supporting dealer from each chapter to be recognized as the person that all purchases get shipped to for those chapter members- for a 10%-15% handling fee or something like that?
The members who are selected to go, or want to go from their chapters could maybe do the buying for other members ?
A lottery at say $100 each could be held in each chapter and the NATIONAL winner gets the fish that the money bought. 300 members, and someone in the country wins a $30,000 fish! Just a thought?
Maybe then, that fish, its breeder and history of the fish as well as a commentary from three ZNA judges could appear in Nichirin?

What do you think?

I like it JR. I'll bring it to the next ZNA Potomac meeting(which should be really soon).

You guys crack me up. Fantasy Island? Jumbo tosai is similiar here in the states as buying tategoi... Trips to Japan are cool but you gots to do the dream yourself...I still vote for shows to feed nationals (sorry, here we go again).

Good Morning mark, I've read your post twice and I still can't make heads or tails of its meaning? Can you expand your comments for clarification? Best, JR

JR-

I don't know Mark, only met him once, but I'll take a stab...It's a glorious morning.

The illusion of jumbo tosai is accepted by those eager for a short cut to success. This parallels the delusion that on a trip to Japan you can buy Tategoi. (capital T)

The last sentence?? He wants to feed showas to the national health care system

Morning Mick! I know Mark quite well! About 15 years I would guess?!

I get the first part as well- tategoi have always been tosai- unfinished fish and not real tategoi. You know what I say about that! " ALL tategoi are unfinished, but not all unfinished fish are tategoi"!

"Trips to Japan are cool but you gots to do the dream yourself...I still vote for shows to feed nationals (sorry, here we go again)".- MW

This is the part that I can't make out? JR

Sorry guys, it was a reference to an earlier thread about having a US national show. To me, it makes more sense than a raffle. Sorry again, I like to speak in tongue.

Yes, I guess it went over your head then Mark. No problem, let me catch you up on the this thread.
The national show discussion was on another board and it was pointed out that it has been attempted before ( Koi America in 1996) but because of the size of the USA compared to England or Taiwan or Holland, a National show in America just turns out to be a local draw advertized as an National event. You do get more out of towners but usually only from dealers and vendors. It is not easy or even advisable to ship/fly 80- 90 cm fish around the country and back again for an exhibition. Too high a risk for the fish and the exhibitor.
We then talked about other ways to create cohesiveness among ZNA chapters and I suggested we all put together a National trip to Japan where we invite two or three members from each chapter to attend. If it is primarily a buying trip then a lottery among members Nationally could potentially have a ZNA member winning a $30,000 fish for a $100 ticket ( just an off shoot idea of the trip itself).

JR's Excellent idea.... I would buy a ticket and my gosh I would be licking my chops at chance to win a 30,000 koi!!! Even in defeat it's nice to know that I helped bring a $30,000 dollar koi over here. I think if this proposistion ever worked we could set up a live web cam so in a sense we could all enjoy it here in the states. Perhaps dedicate a page for it's development, maybe make a National American chapter via a website with all the top koi here in the states.

JR's gambling idea.....THROW THE DICE!
