keep in mind that a net is a tool to control the koi and direct it into the next capture progression. Could be a sock net, could be a plastic bag, could be a fiberglass tub etc. While in a perfect world, a net is big enough to encompass your biggest koi (tho your not catching the koi in the mesh just"corralling" it per se...) the bigger the net the more water resistant and the longer the handle the more difficult to manuever. Sometimes a compromise has to be made if it's to be a one man operation. I've found with big nets and long handles it pays to have two people. Steve: I like your idea of one steady net in corner and a smaller device (net) to position the koi to be captured.

A little over a year ago my wife gave me a very nice 39" diameter net. What I really like about it is that I can capture a koi in the net without lifting the fish out of the water, and then I can slip a 27" diameter bowl under the fish. The bowl stays within the net while I work alone to maneuver or photograph.... no bumping of the fish at any point. I am not as skilled in net handling as some kichi, so I appreciate being able to minimize the chance of harm to the fish.
