Chandler you are sooooo cute.. You get my vote, in fact what flavor of doggie bones you like? I will buy you a box, for being such a good koihound

(HEY, if a dimwit like you can nominate a nimrod like Ly, then I should be able to nominate Chandler -- 'cause dogs is people, too!)

In the first place, he loves his koi and knows they're happy in a properly designed, stocked, filtered and maintained pond (unlike nimrod Ly).

Secondly, he protects his koi and hasn't lost care and custody of them for an extended period of time (unlike nimrod Ly).

And finally, he hasn't broken the law or squandered a small fortune recently (unlike nimrod Ly). Gosh, think how many Milkbones that would have bought!

So for all these reasons, please remember to:

VOTE FOR CHANDLER

Chandler thanks you (and The Hobby will, too).

Seems the point was missed and the thread has gone to the dogs
Protecting the hobby might stay the responsibility of the dealers, breeders, and other pros as hobbyists may want to stick to having fun.

You say I'm a dimwit eh Don? Anyway, you bring up another interesting point about criteria for Koi Person of the Year. Best I can find from the AKCA.org website the criteria is whatever a club wants it to be. Imagine that?

"The "Koi Person of the Year" is/are someone who has made a significant contribution to Koi keeping and/or to their club during the past year. Additionally the club can consider whatever else criteria it chooses. At the AKCA Seminar the "Koi Person of the Year" from each club is presented with a framed award certificate during the Saturday night banquet if the recipient is in attendance. If the recipient is not in attendance, a member from their club may represent the award winner and receive the award."
http://www.akca.org/forms/koiperson.htm

I still like Mr. Ly for the title
Maybe he could get an honorable mention? Would you still run your dog against him?

Lack of contribution aside, what AKCA club does your nimrod Ly belong to that might nominate him? KoiclubofUranus maybe?

(Is that the sound of hot air I hear escaping from your soapbox, again, Hawley?)

Don, what a display of misdirected hostility. If you believe your dog has made a substantial contribution to the hobby then recommend him for Koi Person of the Year in your club and others. As there seems to be no mandated criteria I'd submit that just as Time magazine's Man of the Year doesn't have to be a Time subscriber, the criteria for Koi Person of the Year could include the person most noted in local, state, national, and international media successfully defending his belief that he had a right to own koi. That would be Mr. Ly.

Mr Hawley....

What organization is naming Mr. Ly as Koi Person of the Year? Since I do not believe that he belongs to an AKCA club (but I could be wrong) he would not even be eligible for that award thorugh the nationally recognized Koi hobbyists' organization. Even is he was, then he would be voted on by his local club only since their is NOT even a nationally recognized Koi Person of the Year within the entirety of the AKCA. But, as a former club AKCA rep, I thought you would have known this?

I think the IPPCA board is calling.

Hostility??? I'm sorry, John, but you've completely misunderstood.

It's just that when you get all up on your rag-tag and bobtail soapbox, I'm beset with uncontrollable guffaws. Can't help myself!

No hostility, dude -- that's laughter you hear.

I posited that it might be the KoiclubofUranus -- but that hasn't been confirmed.
