Even if I'm also just a "nimrod" who would go to the trouble of "wasting my money" keeping koi in an aquarium? And that all I have on my best day to squander my paychecks on are "low quality koi" that you wouldn't think twice about buying in bulk and vivisecting gleefully for a wet lab?

I've generally stayed out of discussions on this board because I know I don't have the knowledge to contribute to most of these conversations meaningfully, but maybe a little tact when talking about people not at your level wouldn't be so terrible. There's a difference between expecting a certain caliber of discussion, which I've respected, and just deciding to ridicule those of us who haven't even attempted to step on your toes or get in the way of that. At least one of us lurking in the background trying to learn can still read, and a little emoticon doesn't always make it better.

Mr. Ly gets my nimrod vote for trying to hold on to something that has personal significance to him when there are regulations in place that, while important, might be worth reevaluating to make sure anyone who wants to enjoy such lovely creatures can do so in a responsible way.
Great post Cheeky. I am the same as you as this forum has provided me with a lot of info on raising koi but the post about Mr. Ly being a nymrod and criticizing the quality of his koi just made me sick. It's a bunch of crap. If the man wants to fight for his pet than that is his right. Asian people are really into things that they think will bring them luck. Having a fish in a business is not always about the aesthetics but it's also about bringing them luck. Maybe this fish has brought Mr. Ly enough luck that he is willing to risk $20k to keep it. Maybe he's a millionaire from his business and he accredit it to his fish. It's no more silly than the amount of money some people spends on a carp with some spots.

Who the hell are some of these people to call a man a nimrod for spending money on something he believes in. The elitist attitude of some of these people just make me sick. Just because your fish's beni is sooooo goood that you gotta cut down other people? Please get a grip.

Minster49 . . .

I haven't seen this much sanctimonious twaddle on one thread in a long, long time.

Does anyone (besides me) even remember the title of this thread?

Is it: Does Ly love his koi? Nope.
Is it: Should koi be legal in Maine? Nope.
Is it: My fish are prettier than his fish? Nope.
Is it: Should advanced ponders chip in to help Ly pull his head out of his proverbial bunghole? Nope.

The title of this thread is: Mr. Ly: Reasonable Entry as Koi Person of the Year

That being the case, there are only two questions to answer.

The primary question is whether Mr. Ly is a reasonable entry for KPOTY in one of Hawley's Fruit of the Loom contests? The answer is clearly "NO" so spare us the drama, all you queens.

The second question is why Hot Air Hawley would even bother to hold up for worship an idol with feet so obviously made of clay? Only John can answer that conundrum.

I suggest you check your outrage at the door, Minh, and stick to the question at issue, 'cause this is the wrong koi board for you to take a class warfare stance on! And if you can't understand that, then this is absolutely not the koi board of your dreams.

It seems the parisite has no idea what the concept of (Koi Person Of The Year) is.. And there is no way on Gods green earth, that he will ever have the honor of receiving it. Just like with so many other things, he just don't get it. Perhaps he has a learning disability.

Despite protestations about "seeking the TRUTH " KCOTA seems more interested in creating his own truth. After all, we live in an era when journalism schools have abandoned fact in favor of spin. If his drivvle was in print anywhere it would probably be on the cheesey rack at the checkout line, right next to the National Enquirer.

Larry, I don't think he could even get his published, they dont have a parisite section in the check out line at the grocery store.

Go Get'um Nancy!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this post from Hot Air: "Koi are “big goldfish” National Public Radio claimed in their audio report regarding the Ly situation (listen to the audio). Some call this professional reporting?

Kinda the pot calling the kettle black
