will sunlight help koi keep their vivid colors?

how many hrs of sun would they need each day? direct sunlight ? filter sunlight?

i think you see them better in the sun....the sun also helps kill bacteria in ur pond

Natural light for the day is best, but it should be filtered or shady. Direct sun on clear water all day can be too harsh depending on depth.

so uhh...u guys say...lookin at your koi at night is better then lookin at them in sunlite? and that uv rays from the sun dont kill bacteria just like a uv sterilizer does? its pretty much a basic concept to understand.....its like trying to buy a car at night..you dont see scratches or dents..but in the sunlight u see everything...enough info for ya?

YOU chose the name... not me
U.V. sterilizers are primarily used to kill microalgae. According to your "logic" microalgae will not grow in ponds with full sun because of the "sterilizing" benefit of U.V........ Hmmmmmmmm. Anybody else see a problem with that reasoning?

Moikoi, filtered light is better for you koi and over all pond. I had mine in all day sun then I shaded it and the koi skin look smuch better...
