Matsunosuke Gin

Most of the sansai Sakai's koi at the Seminar have matsunosuke Gin.
I just wonder what was the original bloodline for matsunosuke Gin?

Also, does it impact on judging at the koi show?

This was one of the questions I asked Mr. Sakai, Dinh, "where did the gin come from?"

His answer was "If you want to have the best fish you always pick the best fish." This is a cryptic response and I believe he was encouraging us to think of the gin as a result of his repeated selections for quality, a little like it doesn't matter, it is just there.

Anybody hear it differently?

From what I heard over the years, the Gin is an effect of years of crossing, but only occurs in Matsunosuke Bloodline. I guess that is one way to tell if you got a fish crossed with Matsunosuke.

Dinh,
Matsunosuke gin was first noticed by Toshio's dad in his breeding. Consequent breedings to strengthen the characteristic managed to standardize the feature in the genes.
As his koi began to enter other threatre's (europe/UK ) a lot of confusion
was created with benchers trying to put these gosanke into Gin Rin. It took a while to get that defined that as long as there were not more than three rows of Gin it could be entered in Gosanke.
Everytime I see one of his fish with that charateristic, I know the quality
that will come with maturity.
I saw two koi at Toshio's seminar that I would have loved to have owned.
Two of my newest friends now own them....one was the 3 year old sanke with Matsunosuke Gin and the other was one of his deep beni kohaku's.
