Red Worms - Help Needed!

Hi, while cleaning my filters today I noticed a number of small red worms in the filter foams. Any idea what they are? They are about 1cm long.

Take a look at this and see if it looks right to you.

Red worms are pretty common in the filter, there should be no worries...

First let me commend you for actually looking at what your seeing. a necessary "gift" for all koi keepers. Being observant puts you a head of the learning curve....so keep up the good work.

I have seen lots of different 'critters" in filters and while it's good to understand and identify each one, basically it's telling you that your system is capable of supporting life...including your wet pets....

Wink

Thanks everyone. Been keeping koi for only about six months so still a lot for me to learn and the best way to learn is from other more experienced koi keepers. Not many here in Cyprus so my only source are these forums which I am grateful for! Thanks again!

My fish dine on those all summer! I have a small pond out front, and the water iris I have in a pot in the pond has amazing feathery roots.and the worms love it! Last time I pulled that plant out.there were thousand upon thousands of those red wigglers in there! Lucky fish.
