The Japanese do bargain, but in a very different and subtle way. I love doing business with the Japanese, it is like doing the Flemingo mating dance. I have had quite a bit of luck doing business with them. The Asian bargains (or haggle) in a bloody way. We American know nothing about bargaining.

The best place to pratice your haggling skill is in the old city of Jerusalem, that is the holy city of haggling.

Liek JR said, the breeder is the enemy of your hard earned $$$. You dealer is interested in moving your hard earned $$$ into his/her bank account. You have to watch your hard earned $$$ for yourselves, period. Exception: when your $$$ is swiped, then you propably won't mind other swiping it from you.

Stan, like I told you before...It is the hobbyist that pulls the trigger on a purchase and with that, it is up to the hobbyist to say he is getting a good deal or not.

There are 2 types of hobbyist; one who gets duped and learns from it and the other who just loves to get duped by giving money away.

I agree totally. I used to belong to the first group. Since I have put a stop on buying koi for a few years, I won't be duped for the next few years.

Stan, all you can do is keep studying and ask advise if you have any questions on a potential purchase. Four eyes is better than two...unless the other set of eyes has glasses then you have a total of 6....hahahahaha see you around the dealers....

Hey Hwong

She is a lovely Sanke!I've got 3 days open on a trip to Japan in Oct and I've managed to get an appointment with Sakai(Hiroshima) for 3 day's to buy some koi. I'll be looking at mostly nissai. Just so that I'm realistic in my expectations and since you seem to have bought a few from him what can I expect? I'm just a small time hobbiest and I just want to get a couple of good go-sanke that will do well in our local shows (the standard is not nearly as high as in other places just yet). so nothing crazy or spectacular. Just good healty strong koi that will grow BIG and keep their quality. Simple classic patterns.
