Big Rose Sanke

Hi all,
Would like to share this new koi with you. Was told that this is from Sakai Hiroshima Big Rose first paring with a Wakashoryu Sanke male. Unlike the regular Sakai Sanke Hi, this sanke has the Hi of the Rose kohaku or some say Pink Hi.

Being a sucker for adventure, I bite the bullet and got her to see how the Sumi will come out.
As you can see, on the left when she was jumbo tosai. The sumi is obvious at the tail joint. There is one sumi beside the dorsal fin and one more on the head Hi. It has been growing in Japan for one season. Just got her back last week. The pic taken today on the right shows her at Nisai.

When she arrived from Japan, only the sumi at tail joint remaine but now the sumi at dorsal is coming back . The sumi at Head Hi is still missing BUT there is a shade of submerged sumi on the right shoulder between the head Hi and the 2nd Hi patch. Hopefully this is a sign that more sumis will appers as she grows.

What do you think of this koi and what is your prediction of her development. Hammer away please!

Hwong . . .

I just love your SFF sanke.

You must be very proud of her and I should think she will only get better as the sumi comes up.

There isn't much to add pattern and colorwise to what you've already said. What impresses me most about this fish is the body. The first picture looks very nice, but the way she has thickened from nose to tail is simply outstanding. The body, skin, and beni are definitely living up to the Big Rose lineage, so the only thing left to see is the emergence of the Sumi.

Thanks for the comments.

I believe Sakai Hiroshima has made it good with Big Rose sanke. You can see a few of the nisais in this month auction.

Firstly, what struck me the most is her shiroji. This is the "whitest" I have seen and this morning when feeding my kois, it is more apparent. She really stood out. She has been in Malaysia for a few months, with water temperature around 28 degreeC. the shiroji has maintained its snow white hue.
I have buddies who have kept Big Rose kohakus and the bodies are impressive. This sanke has a nice tail tube at Tosai but I was not so impressed with her head which I fond a little narrow and my concern is that the prominent shoulder might just dwarf the head.

I am quite please that she has developed very proportionately. The head is now broader and the tail tube is really good. My only concern now is the tail. She does not have a big fan like tail. I have a Tsuke Tsuke Rose that has a similar tail and she is very slow growing. At 5years she is only 67cm. Can anyone give some insight to this?

I must add that while I was initially attracted by the koi, I needed much assurance that I am making a wise decision. So I wud like to thank Dr Teh (dtbh) for his input. Now, it is left to see if I am a good enuf koi keeper to grow out her potential. My kois are now in my newly rebuilt pond. I attach a night scene of the pond which is 28ftX11Ft and 4 to 5.5feet deep.

She is beautiful hwong. Why do they call it "pink hi"? Because not orange?

"Pink beni" is a BRIGHT & clean vivid red color without a muddiness.
It is so beautifull but not so stable and has more higher risk to disappare than a thick orange color type beni....

Red face

Kindai, Pink Hi unstable? Wow...
  1. At what age is it unstable and when will it be stable.
  2. Will it be unstable even if it has the thickness to begin with?
  3. How does it appear as it is becomes unstable?
  4. On what breeders koi have you seen this kind of hi turn bad.
Hope you can share your knowledge on this. All I know is, the Hi is so attractive and appear thick, I didnt think for a second that there are downside to it...

I would have no hesitations concerning this Sanke. Just outstanding quality. As a Sanke you can hope more Sumi would appear over time, but who cares. Just look at how beautiful, and enjoy. You have a good eye for fish. Trust it.

Hi, hwong. Your Sakai' sanke will be Okay
10-20% of Sakai' tosai can't hold a beni/hi-ban during a growing process of "Jumbo tosai" in a heated pond with a lots of feeding. however, after they pass up this hard core cull stage, most of his fish hold hi-ban for a long time...
A pink beni is generally advanced & sophisticated which means a far away from the origin. There are few Jumbo size of gosanke with pink beni
