Dick...always find those originating phrase stories interesting. Like the one ...."Don't throw the baby out with the bath water". Apparently in the British Isles somewhere.....Ireland perhaps...can't remember for sure, but families in olden days shared bath water. Husband first, then wife and down the line by age. Baby was last one to bath. Thus the saying.

No wonder the Europeans seem to have (had) an aversion to bathing. The poor baby could come out of the bath dirtier than it went in. I think that is also the story of why cologne was invented.
