New Bekko and Beni Kumonryu

I have these koi reserved, will pick them up with my pond is up and running. what do you guys think? The first one is a shiro bekko and the second is a beni kumonryu. Good and bad comments are welcome.

I can't comment on the kumonryu. No experience. I can tell you though that quality Shiro Bekkos are extremely rare and the hardest fish I know of to breed. This is a nice bekko but it leaves something to be desired. The shiro has to be flawless. That's really the start and end of it for me.

I agree, nice bekkos are hard to come by and the shiro is a big factor. One of the reasons why I decided to go for this koi and since i think it might have some potential. It's young so it's hard to predict but hopefully the sumi doesn't dirty up the shiro too much. it'll be interesting to see what happens.

With the beni kumonryu...it is good to get one with little sumi when young. The sumi develops with growth and can get overwhelming with time. The beni seems nicely placed. These are fun to watch, as the sumi is so variable...changes with temperature and water quality as well.

Thanks for the comments. I'm curious though, I thought the sumi could come and go within days. Why do you think that the chances of the sumi spreading is higher than it leaving?

Thanks

It can come and go depending on conditions. Overall...expect the sumi to increase. Think of an utsuri or showa...sumi develops over time. In the book kokugyu 2, you can see the development of a few.

Thanks for the info! one more question, based on your book does it say/show anything about the development of the beni? ie. will the beni change like the sumi because I've seen some beni kumonryu's with what appears to have beni waiting to surface (mine shows it too.)

In the ones I have seen..the beni pretty much stays the same. It is the sumi that makes it exciting to own one.
