Did you check the expiration date on the bottles?

Yea, till 2009. So everything seems fine. Tested my water this morning before feeding and got all zeros on ammonia and nitrite.Just needed to loose the dropper system! It's really a great meter. No guessing or trying to match the colour chart etc. Make for safe keeping.

I have the same meter and I love it. the only real danger with these puppies is some people start chasing water values because the Hanna meters are so damn accurate.

OMG my nitrite level has gone up 0.03 mg/l... What should I do!

For most people it is just too much info and they are better off with a simple drop-test-kit that will tell them if their water is about to explode or is just OK

The only trouble I have at this point is that all my reagents are well and truly past the use by date and I need to replace them very soon. This will sadly cost me about $200 for the four main tests I want (Amonnia LR, Nitrite LR, Nitrate and PH) and while I don't mind the cost I just KNOW that when these new ones are all too old I will have a half a box of each to toss out. You would think they would sell boxes ot 50 as well as 100 tests.

Since you are so intrested in amonia and nitrigon compounds here is one for you ;
It has just been proven that diluted human urine produces plankton that lives longer ,reproduces earlier , and creates more offspring .The explanation :the urine contains high concentrations of nitrogen compounds that degrade rapidly to release amino acids and minerals ,fertalizing the growth of algae, which the plankton then feeds on . For full info go to nature.com/news
May be we can throw out all the meters and .....

Eugnene, just trying to learn as much as I can. I don't have the comfort of sending my pets to a nice mudpond so I've got to create the 'ideal' inviroment for them. There is a lot of conflicting stories on the parameters and I just want to get down to the truth, measure accuratly and be pro-active instead of re-active. I know there is some experienced keepers out there who judge their koi by just looking at them and when they seem happy, all is well. Well, you can smoke two packets of sigarettes every day and for a few years you will also 'seem' happy and eat well but in the long run you will run into trouble.
