What Mike said. Typical JKO offerings.

All have 'issues' and I don't see any potential for show. Sorry.

I've got to agree. Not show quality anywhere among them.
#1 has a large frame, but no pattern potential.
#2 and #3 have some pattern potential (maybe) but look like candidates for fast finishing males with poor prospects long term.

Of the 3, I like #1 the best. It has the best body. I don't think I'd buy any of them though.

Not true. You can find nice Showa for say $300-$350. I found this 15 inch, female Omosako showa in that price range. I need a new picture of the fish as the sumi has cleaned up quite nicely and the body has filled out- maybe a bit too much. This fish has since won a tategoi award at a ZNA show.

I don't get too hung up on a thin body because I know what the breeder and a dealer put a fish through. Not long ago I bought a fish. She had a nice plump body. When the fish arrived, the body was considerably thinner. Within a month after placing the fish in quarantine, she has filled back out to her photographed shape.

at the toshio sakai seminar, that ZNA and Russ peters helped sponsor, some wonderful showas went for 200-250 in a silent auction. so as mike says you do have to look around.
two of the 3 showas pictured were GR and i can't tell quality from picture
so can't do a fair job of critiqueing....don't get discouraged. I have seen some decent isa tateshita that go for around $100.
I know my local dealer has some single A type showa coming in from toshio
again this year that will go for $225.00.
when hunting koi think of the object as the fun of the hunt, actually getting a koi is a bonus. that way it will take the pressure off instant gratification and put the emphasis on learning quality and pricing (where it should be )
have you thought to check with some domestic breeders? I know you can do better on price and quality at Nisei, Purdin, lotusland, or Brett's.
