| Speaking of size . . . Southern California Z. N. A. joined SO-CAL, in 1979, to put on the First International Nishikigoi Show. This was held at Gardena City Hall, instead of Peary Jr. High, and fish from as far away as Japan were entered. Over 1,100 fish entered made this the largest show held in the U. S., before or since. Two Koi breeders were SO-CAL judges, while Z. N. A. provided leading members from Japan chapters. Mr. Tamaki and Mr. Konishi, who need no introduction here, were the professionals; Z. N. A. had Dr. Kuroki, Mr. Kono and Mr. Kashima. The level of competition and quality were the highest ever attained here. Mr. Chickasawa won his third Grand Championship with a jumbo Kohaku, which had a mighty contest with another jumbo Kohaku (with a most interesting head pattern) that belonged to the Allisons. A Japanese style show, of course, but still . . .
