Sakura Young Koi Show - Fundraising

Thought it might help to promote the special fund raising items being donated to the Sakura Young Koi Show.

I will be donating a custom made 10-1/2 in round fused glass koi plate depicting the 2002 All Japan Show Grand Champion Sanke bred by T. Sakai and grown by Momotaro. This was the first AJS GC to measure more than 1 meter. Proceeds from this donation will be shared by Sakura Young Koi Show and AKCA Project KHV. I'll post a photo of the plate when completed.

OK all you ZNA folks on the West coast. We got $500 for one of Ray's plates at CFKS. Let's see you beat that.

Mike

Judging by the interest this item has stirred within the koi community here, I don't think it will be a problem. I'm bringing in some shills to help get the juices flowing. Speak of "the juices flowing"
it should be one helluva banquet!

Ray

Just saw your post on the Sakura Show thread. There will be a live auction of six items which will be held immediately after the banquet. Besides Ray's fused glass art there will be water color paintiings, donated by Wind Dancer Studios (Pat Michaud Towery) and Kaleidascapes Art (Dan Rutledge), A fiberglass koi measuring tank, provided by Chris DeVinchenzi of Kichi Transport, a W. Lim large Microstrainer, provided by Pond Life-Mike Perret and a 25 watt U V Light provided by Aqua U V.

On Saturday and Sunday, we will have "silent" auctions for some very special fish. These fish are being provided by: Platinum Sponsor Peters and Sons Koi and Pond Supply (Russ and Kari Peters), Genki Nishikigoi (Kevin Pham), Simi Koi and West Coast Koi.

There is room for 50 people at the banquet. So far, I have over 25 signed up. Don't be shy folks, the food promises to be very good with a choice of N Y Steak or herb crusted chicken breast. Includes rice pilaf, spring vegetables soft drinks/water, coffee, tea and dessert!

Hope to see a lot of Bito faces at this event. See you in 18 days!

Mike

I think we have another thread somewhere for Sakura donation/auction.

Here is 16" 2 years old Maruten Showa will be donated to auction at Sakura Young Koi show for benefit to ZNA NorCal.

Well, Ray, seems the west coasters are out to show some Texas-style bravado for that plate. ....We'll see.

Hi Mike,
The Central Florida Koi Show folks have set a high standard in many ways for the rest of us koi lovers around the U.S. to meet. I am betting that the West Coast koi kichi will be bringing their best efforts to the Sakura Young Koi Show in a few weeks. I have no doubt it will be a fantastic event. If they can find a auctioneer with as much energy and class as yourself the auction will be a big success. Thanks Mike and everyone else for all you do for koi.

I cut out the blue blanks for the sanke plate and also the body. It is always very interesting to see a AJS GC koi built element by element. The body on this sanke is very powerful as everyone knows.

As I started cutting and shaping the beni elements I was struck by how elegant the beni pattern is on this koi. Most of us have missed the elegant beni markings on jumbo koi when pushed/selected to produce larger and larger koi the quality of the patterns have often taken a step or two backwards to gain size. Jumbo size seems to usually go along with more primitive and heavier one and two step patterns.

I was really struck by the beautiful kohaku pattern on this huge sanke. A elegant and surprizing four step pattern. I stopped and took this photo capturing just the kohaku pattern before continuing to cut and shape the sumi markings.

Somehow making these plates depicting the greatest koi every developed helps me to better understand their uniqueness.

You're absolutely correct. It's amazing when you see this comparison side by side. Tha caliber of that pattern is second to none in this size category. By the way, the plate is really coming together nicely. The person who wins this item is going to enjoy it for many years to come.

Thanks again for your undying efforts for this show and your committment to KHV Research.

Well, I finally got Dinh to tell me who donated the maruten Marudo Showa to the auction. IT WAS HIM!!! So, not to be outdone, I told him I would check my pond and see if I had something worth donating to the cause as well. That would make it a nice round number of 10 fish for silent auction. 5 each day.

MikeM

Yes, we West Coasters are definitely ready to rumble!! LOL
