Very good, Mr. North. Please buy #1 while there to save me from compulsive acquisitiveness!
Erns: these are 11.5"(female), 11"(undetermined), 10"(female) and 11"(female).
IMO, the best of the 4 based on the photos is also the largest, the first photo. Such even Beni on #1, and a nice body. The pattern is her drawback, butit is a pattern that will develop some nice inserts in time. I expect folks will overlook her because she does not have a step pattern and not inazuma... just one big splash of Hi. The quality of the pigment looks very good to me. If she had a step pattern, I think the price would be through the roof.
#2 is just about as nice, but might be male. #4 requires some confidence that the area of messy Beni will clear up, the red in the pec will retract and the Hi on the head will tighten up ... all of which I think there is a good chance will happen. Then, a very nice Kohaku, indeed.
But, you got me. I caved on #3. Weird pattern. The Beni is a different sort. Not the pure orange-based Hi of the others. Seems to be more the "pink beni" type? If it holds (and I think it will), she should be brilliantly red. The body is not quite as good as the first impression caused by the pattern, but not bad... perhaps a bit too stubby for a koi this young? She is smaller than the others and I have a feeling she will not grow to be as large as them, but the shape of her head is beautiful to my eye and the shoulder is strong, so maybe she will do fine in the size department. Several questions floating in my mind, but the total package kept drawing my eye back to her.
Jim: Make sure to get us some photos when you visit. It makes me nuts to look at over 400 tosai on the website and not be able to see them in person!
