The white will be the element that carries this fish and what will support the bright soft look of the beni, even as limited as it is.
So if, in addition, you wind up with bold sumi and a great body, your in business! In other words, quality of skin can overcome pattern weaknesses. JR

PS. I should have finished this post by saying- this fish IS a tategoi. We just don't know how far it will come?

Wow, that's high praise indeed.

Glad you know that you see so much potential in this fish. I only hope a newbie like me can help this koi to achieve it.

Yes, I think we do.

Were your two kindai also from Sekiguchi -- I believe there were about 15 of them, total -- or were they from one of the other 5 or 6 breeders in that February shipment?

I went back and found this picture of our koi (top) tubbed with four others from Sekiguchi right out of the bag from Japan, and I don't remember any of them having as much shiro as yours do?

Hi, Don. Yes, They were from a pond with 5-6 breeders mixed.
I am not sure but probably Sekiguchi... Ken told us that small size Showas were from Marudo and large ones were Sekiguchi
So, they will not grow to Jumbo size, maybe up to 26-28"??, because of Sekiguchi....

Don:
Good luck with your Showa. In the second picture of the gang including yours, I was thinking with the lighter beni, the one on the bottom may be
female.
