I usually bump into Jim at the fall harvest of Nisei koi farm in New jersey.

always the same, never changes. last year he brought a bunch of nichirin's which the gang enjoyed.

Perhaps we have met?????? LOLs! I was a member of your ZNA chapter for 6 years before forming our own ZNA chapter with Art Lembke. I judged your show at least 4-5 times including training credit shows. I don't think I've missed more that two judging seiminar in the ten years at your show.. I've been giving away an MAKC friendship trophy at your chapter's show banquet for at least ten years!! I helped run a lecture series at one of your shows. I handed out and collected your judging form, when you did the judging seminar for the past few years at the Socal show and I've not missed an annual SoCal show until last year since 1994!
Yes, I 'think' we have met!! JR

Hi~. JR (^_^)/ >MAKC friendship trophy... This was a big hint for me.
Your #2 comment made me curious to know....because not many people know that much level of knowledge....not only basic of conformation, quality, pattern but also dignity, elegancy, grace, splendor and we even talk about aura sometimes... Thanks again.

So, Here is a new one I have...5 inches. In the side view shots, you can see a red belly..a sumi on both sides. The sumi is coal black in person. Wonderfully dark sumi. The skin quality..like silk. Very smooth and nice. Do you think the sumi will expand and make this a worthwhile kumonryu...or become an all white koi? Thanks again!!

What we are getting into here is the fact that today kumonryu is used as a name for almost any karasugoi type in doitsu version and with almost any cross with karasuigoi that ends up doitsu. So it is impossible to project what koi will change and what koi will not. I suspect your red is from crow and not kohaku ( as they would provide dorsal pattern red) But only the breeder would know for sure what the likelihood of stable pattern was based on the breeding. Sorry.

To give you an idea of the variations, your koi is called kumonryu. So is this koi! But they are obviously very different fish and from very different backgrounds. The oNLY thing they likely have in common is the fact that there is one or another karasui goi clan member in the breeding.

Thanks JR...This koi was bred by Blackwater creek in Fla. I know they have been working hard to make this a popular variety for them. Since Mr. Suda is somehow associated with this farm (part owner or something like that)..I assume it was probably started with his stock. I read an article in Nichirin that Suda actually invented the beni kumonryu. It was pretty interesting stuff. I hope this one turns out like the one in your picture..lol
